Who Makes The Best Shawarma in Toronto?

Back Story: I love shawarma's. A lot. In Toronto there are many shawarma shops, but only one was truly great in my books. It was called King Shawarma located on Queen West near Spadina. They made them, as what I would define: perfectly. Toasted pita, loads of fresh fillings and saucey sauce with crispy, chunks of chicken or beef that would literally come flying out at you when you took a bite into that rolled up piece of heaven. No kidding, like I had to dodge the chunks and would always find pieces of meat behind my couch (?!?!?).  To me, being the first shawarma I ever had, and as you know, having something new for the first time pretty much makes it the standard you measure everything else by, all others were so-so at best.

Saturdays were spent hanging out on Queen Street with my kid, shopping, picking up shawarmas, going home, watching a movie and we'd eat them. Oh and picking up random projectile pieces of chicken from behind the couch.

Sadly, for whatever reason, the place closed in the summer of 2007.  The space reopened and sold shawarma but they weren't the same. Countless shawarmas later, still haven't found a replacement. Walking down Yonge Street one day, my kid pointed out that there were a crazy amount of shawarma shops between Bloor and Dundas and that we should check them out. So starting with Yonge Street we are going to blog about our adventures in finding a new king of shawarmas. Stay tuned...
